CAM Spin-Off Companies
CAM has uniquely and successfully transferred its basic and applied research into the private sector. The formation of six spin-off companies has been a prime example of the major return on investment to CAM federal and state funding. In general spin-off company mortality rates are high, however of the CAM spin-off companies, two companies have been extremely successful and have been registered on international stock markets with the IPO of Applied Optoelectronics Inc. on NASDAQ (September 2013) which manufactures semiconductor fiberoptic networking products for video and data systems, and the listing on the Chinese stock exchange of 2D Carbon Tech Ltd. (October 2015) which is manufacturing graphene touch screens for cell phones. Other spin-offs of note are Metal Oxide Technologies Inc. which is starting production of superconducting wire.
